Hi there' Do you already have a version of server installed on the system? It sounds to me that you have downloaded utility Discs and not the Microsoft windows Server I would imagine that you must have server already installed on the system before you use the dell utilities. I went to Dell's website and put the recommended driver on a USB found at the following link , put that into the server and rebooted. There was no change in behavior except it took longer to reboot that time and the install process brought me to the same place.

Got it working. We were able to select the driver from the menu and continued from there. Move to a hardware RAID controller that can create a virtual disk that is visible to Windows and able to be marked bootable will allow your installation to continue. The OS installation media would run a OS installation menu that let you choose OS like svr and will pre-run some processes like RAID config then ask you to insert the svr media.

I would think it is also important to read instructions on the screen rather than guess what drivers etc or what you doing?? The customer needs to find the money for a real RAID card before you go further. As Adrian suggests use the dell media - it will include the drivers, or use the lifecycle controller on the drac - that does the prestaging and slips the driver in.

Literally follow the dell documentation. You need to make sure the downloaded drivers contain INF files, so you can point the Windows installer to that files in order to install a driver.

Thanks for the feedback! We bought the server 3 years ago. I came into this role last year, and there isn't a method in place for keeping installation software around facepalm. I'll root around and see if I can find it, but I'm not hopeful. It is certainly not too late to change.

I called our Dell sales rep asking what exact hardware RAID controller I can use with the R, since I was getting confused by some of the different options.

She checked with their server folks, and it turns out that switching from a software to a hardware RAID controller is not supported I'm assuming since our server shipped with a software RAID controller, but I am not sure. Looking more closely in the documentation, it also says the same thing. I know software RAID is not recommended for a production environment, but it looks like there isn't another option available.
