The only glaring mistake Favre made came after the first snap when a guard tripped him as he was trying to hand the ball off. Ryan Grant had yards rushing and a score after running for just 7 yards in the first half, helping Green Bay take time off the clock. Kitna was of for yards with a TD and an interception. Johnson had 83 yards receiving and a score. Jones added 93 yards rushing and a TD. Too often, the Lions had to settle for field goals and Jason Hanson made each of his four attempts.
They drove to the Packers 23 twice and their 32 on their first three drives, but came away with just two field goals. The Lions finally played a game on Thanksgiving that meant something, but ended up losing for the fourth straight time to match their worst skid on the holiday in four decades. Under team president Matt Millen, they are in the only game each season that the nation can watch on TV and have fallen to overall.
Game notes Favre's streak was two short of matching the NFL mark. Green Bay's championship-winning team was after losing on Thanksgiving at Detroit and the Packers were following a tie with the Frankford Yellow Jackets. The Lions had starting OT George Foster inactive, a move that backfired when his replacement, Jonathan Scott , left the game early because of a hamstring injury. Maybe the NFL teams set to play on Thanksgiving got caught looking ahead to the holiday extravaganza.
All six squads playing on Thursday lost in their lead-up to the Thanksgiving game, marking the first time since that every team playing on the holiday dropped its previous contest. This year there are six teams — Detroit , Chicago , Las Vegas , Dallas , New Orleans and Buffalo — looking to get rid of the bad taste of a loss so they can enjoy their holiday. Four of those are on winless stretches of at least three games. Detroit hosts Chicago in the first game, a matchup between a winless team and one on a five-game losing streak.
The Bears and Lions are familiar Thanksgiving foes, with this being their 19th meeting, two shy of the record held by Detroit and Green Bay. That game will be followed by the slumping Raiders , who have lost three straight, visiting the Cowboys , who have dropped two of three.
The nightcap features another team on a three-game skid, with New Orleans hosting Buffalo The final two games on Thanksgiving are part of a record nine this week between teams that don't have a losing record, the most in NFL history in Week 12 or later.
The Giants, on their second offensive snap of the game, had to call a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty. They followed this up with a minus-two yard run by Brandon Jacobs. That basically set the tone for the game as the Giants offense seemed to have stayed in New York.
There were holes that he got to that Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson , or last years Brandon Jacobs for that matter, would have turned into a long gain. Something is missing or has gone awry there.
Meanwhile a lot has been said of the struggles of the Giants offensive line. They played reasonably well at all times, more so on running plays.
The announcers kept saying they were getting beat physically but they most looked confused by the Broncos tricky defensive alignments than they were physically dominated. But the Broncos defense played extremely well. In fact the quarterback pressures could often be attributed to superior defensive back play more so than the defensive line dominating the line of scrimmage. But it was a very well played game by the Denver defense all around.
But he was completely shut out of the game. I have seen Denver play several times this year and I have not seen these moves by Moreno before. He has a unique running style that avoids big contact and can make the most out of small openings.
And, of course, wide receiver Brandon Marshall was making some sick one handed catches. But frankly, at the end of the day I am not sure whether Denver looked so good because the Giants were just plain awful, or if they have come out of their funk.
